Indeed, the current WireAPI library only supports 0-9, and won't talk
to an AMQP broker that talks 0-8.

If you really want to connect to a 0-8 broker, I can find you an older
OpenAMQ release that implements 0-8, and you can use the WireAPI layer
from that.
