Mato,

To take your mind off things, why don't you try making this using PAL?

You may want to modify the PAL stdc script to let you read and write
files, it should be quite simple.  You can also use a helper script
(see the amq_test_console.pal file on one of the older branches (got
removed from trunk).

Carl is a semi-interested user, definitely worth trying to make him happy.
